Helping the world’s leading innovator in display backlighting prepare their China manufacturing facility for an automotive PPAP program implementation.

Situation:

As part of GLT strategy to grow, GLT expanded their product offering to include being a supplier to the Global automotive industry. To enable this, GLT were required to introduce all new product they supplied into an automotive supply chain using the PPAP auto standard (Production Part Approval Process). Despite being relatively similar to many other industry standards, the PPAP is specific to auto industry and is a highly complicated and rigid process. Upon being awarded a major automotive contract to be produced at their China manufacturing facility, GLT were aware that their Global team lacked the expertise to implement a PPAP and required outsourced expertise to conduct an analysis of the organization and design & implement an appropriate solution and training plan to help deliver the PPAP requirement. They chose Infinite Sum to deliver their requirements.

Approach:

Using a combination of our North American and China based teams, Infinite Sum consultants with specific experience in Automotive PPAP and China automotive supplier management worked with GLT to understand their specific requirement relative to their automotive commitments. Our team conducted a standard evaluation of the GLT China capabilities and compared against the PPAP requirement and associated project timing to prepare a gap analysis report and associated solution. The solution consisted of both short-term intervention to ensure GLT deliver immediate customer PPAP requirement as well as longer-term requirements in terms of a training plan to ensure GLT in China were experienced enough themselves to undertake a PPAP without outside third part support.

Results:

Successfully implemented the PPAP program enabling GLT to begin shipping their first automotive lighting product from their China facility.
